Love is separate
Don't you think your parents treat you as if you're an extension of themselves? They want you to be perfect so that when people see you, they'll think of what a good job of parenting they've done.

Plato's take on love:
Love is the desire for goodness and beauty, and only philosophers can achieve this because they are always thinking of what is good. The other love that we are experiencing is erotic love, or rather a serious mental disease.
